Sorry to butt in… the pattern in the link above… it has this part:

Row 1: *K1, p1 *continue across row.

Rows 2 and all other rows: knit the purl sts and purl the knit sts.

Does it mean to alternate R1 and odd rows to begin with K and R2 and evens to begin with P? Or does it mean, the rest of the rows after 1 to begin with K?

Sorry if this is a novice question! lol

You will be doing seed stitch. The best thing I can tell you is to [B][I][U]learn what the stitches look like[/U][/I][/B]. It will help you tremendously in all your knitting projects from here on out. That way you will automatically know what you need to do. Here’s a sample of what the stitches look like. For seed stitch you knit the purls and purl the knits as they face you. As they face you means when you have the knitting in your left hand and are ready to knit. All stitches have two sides, a knit and purl, so it’s opposite on the other side when you turn. See how it would help if you could just know what the stitches look like? You can do this! :thumbsup:

Jan, browsing the posts in these forums, I’ve seen so many new knitters having this type of problem, not realising what the stitches look like and getting confused trying to work out what stitch to knit next.

Your photo is EXCELLENT. I suggest a topic with it and some information about ribbing and seed stitch, and recognising the stitches, be put up top as a sticky.

Yes, the video is good, but this is such a repeated problem, and Jan’s little photo shows it all so clearly, that I still think a sticky right on the forum might be more obvious for new knitters to access.

The picture is a good example. Every time the topic comes up, I always hope Jan reads it and posts her picture, because I don’t remember where it is…
