I am struggling with Foxglove dress pattern from Ravelry. I do not know how to proceed after casting on.
Hi and welcome to KH. Is this the pattern? Could you please post the row you’re having trouble with? As it’s a paid pattern we can’t look to see what it says. I’d expect the pattern has you placing markers for your increases.
I tried to post this yesterday and couldn’t. Trying again.
Is it creating the vent or the short rows that are the problem? Only the first page uploaded.
For the bottom of the page, you’re working increases at the raglan markers on every RS (right side) row. Slip one, purl 12, knit 1 place a marker and continue with the given number of purls, k1, marker along the row then knit the last stitch.
The increases should be described somewhere toward the beginning of the pattern, before the actual instructions. You’re probably increasing on each side of the marker but follow any instructions in your pattern on that.
Here’s a video for GSR (German Short Rows) in case you need it.
We’ve all had problems accessing the forum. I hope logging in will be easier soon.
Don’t post any more of the pattern please due to copyright. You can quote a few specific rows that are causing a problem if you need to.
The vent is the opening at the back of the neck. Right now it’s the space between the end of one row and the beginning of the next row since you’re knitting back and forth. There will be a point in the directions where you join to knit in the round I assume. Then the opening vent or split will be apparent.
Start the short rows after the marker set up row. For the 1st row, slip 1, k5, k1 turning stitch and turn.
I understand how the vent will be shaped but I don’t understand how to do short rows on RS and then on WS.
Watch the video I linked to above (post #4)especially the part at about 2:00 minutes. That shows you how to work short rows from a purl side.
I can follow the video but not the pattern.
I don’t get how to alternate the rows, where they start and where they end.
The rows all start at the beginning of the RS row. You work the turn at various points then turn and purl back to the end of the WS row. You’ll always end up ready to work a RS (knit) row. You’re only going to be adding rows on one side of the dress in this first section.
Here’s a diagram that may help. The set up is shown in the first line including the markers which I’ve labelled A-D. I haven’t included the first slip stitch which of course, you will work. In the first short row (line 2) k5, turn and purl back.
The following lines show short rows 2-4. Follow the directions for increases, knitting the marked stitch and then the number of sts after the marker as written in your directions.
It may help to use different color markers or to label them A-D to make it easier. Label the pattern instructions too.
Thank you, I’m going to try to digest this.
I guess I’m concerned about working one side and wondering how I’m going to get to the other side.
After the 4th short row, you’ll knit across the entire row to the other end, Then you’ll work the short rows on that shoulder. Trust the pattern and you’ll be fine. If you run into problems working the rows, come back and ask.
Enjoy knitting this darling dress.
I’m going to read it through again. Thank you so much
