Fortune cat pattern help

Hello all !

I really want to make this fortune cat.

I have just started messing with double pointed needles and am not as advanced as I would say you or her lol.

Ok so, I’m gonna need major help lol.

I have not started the pattern, yet, but before I start I have some questions about the 1st little bit.
Work in rounds for about 2 cm, place marker at last st (or note last stitch)
Arms: we are going to put little armhole markers in, just like a thumb marker for mittens.
The last stitch is the middle back stitch.
Knit 10 sts, using waste yarn (smooth strong yarn), knit 5 stitches, knit 6 sts with main yarn, knit 5 sts waste yarn, knit to end with main yarn.
Continue to work rounds for 3 cm (total length 5 cm)
Legs: work as for arms.

OK so I am guessing with that part of the pattern I make 4 of them. 2 arms and 2 legs. Now the part that says about placing the marker in the last stitch which is the middle back stitch. what does that mean? THat isn’t just the last stitch I come to ?

Please help this confused dpn virgin !!!

More to come in a little while !!!
Thanks !!

Your best bet for a confusing pattern is to start it. It’s much easier to understand what they’re referring to if you have it in your hands. The middle back stitch probably refers to the middle of the back of the cat.

When you make toys or animals, you often mark parts of the pattern so you can sew them together in a certain way when the knitting is done; or use a marked stitch as reference as to where to start some other part.

Thanks Ingrid! I’m sure I’ll be asking some more questions in a little while. New patterns always scare the bejesus outta me and it helps me nerves a bit when someone says “you’re doing that right” lol.

Thank you Thank you

These are so cute! Can’t wait to see them knit up. (Maybe I can modify to make a totoro  )

Well I sort of got frustrated with the fortune cat pattern so I tried to make my own one. I did it on straight needles and stitched it up. This is my 1st attempt at it and I can see where my mistakes need improving, but a good try none the less. I even added a little fishy for him. It has something to do with good luck.

Very cute!!!

Your kitty is so cute!
