I’m in the process of knitting my first sweater and I’ve hit a bit of a snag: I’m at the neck shaping for the front panel and it tells me to "work 37 sts, join 2nd skein of yarn and bind off center 18 sts, work to end. working both sides at once, bind off from each neck edge 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 1 time - 31 sts each side. work even until same length as back. bind off rem sts each side for shoulders."
I’m sort of at a loss for what to do here, so any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Work 37 stitches…drop the yarn you are working with and attach a second strand of yarn and bind of 18 sts and work to the end of the row.
Turn your work and work back to the center and bind off the 3 stitches at the center neck edge. Drop this strand of yarn, pick up your first strand of yarn, bind off 3 sts. and continue to the end of the row. Work each side decreasing the number of sts. at the neck edge as the directions state, then work each side of the neck until it measures what the back is.
Take yarn from a different skein to bind off 18 sts (count as you do this).
Work to the end of row. (if you bound off the correct number of sts, you will have 37 sts on either side of the bound off center sts)
Turn, work those 37 sts.
(You can bind off only a the begining of a row to do neck shaping.)
Now, pick up the yarn you dropped on the other side, bind off 3 sts on that side of the front, work to end of row. (34sts)
Turn, work those 34 sts. Drop that yarn.
Pick up the yarn from the other side of front and bind off 3 sts, work to end of row. (34sts)
Turn, work those sts. Drop that yarn.
Now go to the other side of front and bind off 2 sts, work to end of row. (32sts)
Turn, work those sts. Drop yarn.
Do the same on the other side of the front of sweater.
Next sequence is to bind off 1 st at each neck edge.
You should have 31 sts on each side of bound off sts.
Now work the sts on either side simutaneously, with each side’s yarn, until the sides measure the same as the back.[/color]
Wait, I just re-read my post and you can’t bind off at the neck egde after you turn your work and work back to the center, you will have a stitch left on your needle at the neck. I think you have to knit back to the center/neck, drop this yarn, pick up the first strand of yarn, bind off at that neck edge and knit to the end of the row. Turn your work again, knit to the center, drop this yarn, pick up the second strand and THEN bind off the 3 sts. at that neck edge.
