I’m in the final stage of a cowl that has a button flap in the front. The pattern says to make the flap with a crochet hook, but I barely know knitting let alone crochet and I didn’t want to buy a hook just for it, so I want to adapt it over to knit.
The first instructions for the button flap is this: With crochet hook, make a slip stitch, chain 1 (this counts as 1st sc), work a single crochet in every other stitch all around the front of your hood, slip stitch into the first single crochet. Start button flap.
What?! Am I not getting this because I don’t crochet? I’m just confused. Do I PU stitches? Help?!
I’m actually really glad you said that because it proves I’m not alone. It’s really a fake button flap, so it doesn’t matter too much. To top it off, I’ve never done an I cord. Newbie right here.
I actually started a seed stitch flap separate, but worried how it would look once stitched on. I don’t want it to look weird and since it’s not actually a flap I wasn’t sure how it’s supposed to look. The bottom of the neck is a v shape and the flap is a square. Maybe I’m just crazy…
t looks like the button flap is there to close up the V. The crochet directions that you quote are an edging around the opening to finish off the hood, picking up in every other stitch.
Sewing on a seed stitch flap or picking up a small number of sts to start a seed stitch flap (even easier, no sewing required) is a good idea and would work.
