I am so happy…I’ve finally finished these socks! I made them for my daughter’s teammate. She requested a pair of socks when she saw me knitting my Monkey Socks. I went through a crisis when the sock yarn I had selected didn’t have enough yardage. So, I reconciled myself to using this skein of Tofutsies yarn, color #799. It’s b-eautiful…perfect colors for Florida.
Here is a link to the free pattern. I used size 1 (2.50mm) needles…two circs (one 16" and one 24"). The different sized circs helped me keep my needles straight.
The only variation I made to the pattern was to continue the pattern down the top of the foot. I think that the SS foot pictured on the pattern instructions looks odd…hence my change. I knit six pattern repeats down the leg and six from the point where I picked up stitches down the top of the foot. The gal has BIG feet!

I had to try on the first sock when I finished, even though it’s a little too big for me…

Here are the completed socks…horrible lighting but I’m out of town…you do the best you can.

Oh, and here’s a picture of the slip stitch heel. The yarn looks totally different! Weird, huh?
I will probably, at some point, order more yarn in this color, but for now, I’m content that it’s been knit up.
I gave her the socks today. She was so cute. Someone must have told her that I was looking for her before the game, because when she got to the field, she came skipping toward me, a huge smile on her face.
I handed over the bag, and she unwrapped the socks, smiling in delight when she saw them. I am so glad I didn’t bother blocking them. She cared not one iota.
After the game, I was talking to another parent when I felt a pair of arms go around me…without warning. Looking around, I figured out that the arms belonged to this gal. She hugged me and showed me her feet…proudly displaying the socks, feet in sneakers. She assured me that they fit, but I made her take off the shoes just to be sure. :teehee: She told me that she’s going to wear them every day. I hope she washes them sometimes!
Then, we went to another player’s house for an end-of-the-season party, and some of the parents came up to me to tell me how this gal had walked up to them, sticking her leg in the air to show off her socks. She really, really likes them.
Anyhow, she likes them, making the work (and sacrifice of the beloved yarn) totally worth it.
Oh, and now one of my daughter’s other teammates has requested a hat with a pom pom on top and thing-y’s hanging down from the sides.
I too love the colors and the pattern, great job. Now you are in for it and they are all going to want soemthing. How sweet that she was so tickled with them.
