FO: Thrummed mittens

Some of you have seen the first mitten so it’s not much of a suprpise… However, since others are bragging about their second socks and whatnot  , I proudly present The Second Mitten. Together with The First.

I am also kind of proud that it’s made from local Nova Scotia wool. It’s a gift for someone who was very happy to learn she was getting a pair.

Gorgeous mittens! :muah:

Oh, there goes that Olha again, showing off her handiwork! . . . . . . . . . . . . . I love it! You do such beautiful work, and it’s always a pleasure to see it!!

And, yes, I imagine your friend IS thrilled to get a matching pair of mittens (of course, I’m working on the assumption that she’s not one-handed)!

Great work!

Beautiful! I bet they are toasty warm!

The same words seem inadequate but…they are beautiful!
:cheering: :yay: :muah:

I love seeing your FOs.

Oh, yeah. When I try them on indoors, I seem to start sweating

Beautiful, as ever and the fact that it’s home-grown, Nova Scotia wool makes the pair even better.

See what I mean? “There she goes again!”

Nope, I am in luck, my daughter’s preschool teacher does have both hands. And unlike kids, I didn’t see her running around the playground when it’s -10 C so I hope the warmth would be appreciated.

Actually, she guessed what I was making when I asked if her hands were cold. I told her I am making very warm mittens and looking for a recipient. And immediately she said ‘You are not making thrummed mittens, are you?’ This lady goes on my Christmas knitting list next year

What does thrummed mean?
Does it refer to the lighter color that makes that lovely pattern? I think they’re little hearts?

Very cute and looks exceedingly warm! I am sure your friend will love them

Yes, the lighter colored sts can be made with roving or top (unspun yarn) so that you have a thick blanket inside the mitten (or hat). Here’s a how-to. It’s a great technique for really warm projects.

I just want to add one more link cause Stephanie’s mittens are ‘oh, so beautiful’. She also explains the process, it starts a few posts back

(scroll down for mittens, please)

   your mittens!

This is one item that’s been on my Bucket List for a very long time.

I trust you know I’m teasing,* and I LOVE to look at your finished projects (or half-finished projects or ideas for projects or any other kind of project you care to post).

Keep 'em coming!!!

*P.S. Just checking to make sure I don’t hurt anyone’s feelings. It can happen so easily when you can’t see facial expressions or hear someone’s tone of voice.

Yeah, I know, I know  Sometimes it’s hard to joke online, but I am sure with your sense of humour you understand that I joke back. Too many smiley faces kind of kill sarcasm, don’t you think?

But it was sweet of you to post it anyway.

 :roflhard: :woot: :teehee:   NO!:stuck_out_tongue:   :stuck_out_tongue: :happydance: :aww:   :teehee: :happydance: :roflhard:   she says sarcastically.:woohoo:  :stuck_out_tongue:   :stuck_out_tongue: :happydance: :roflhard:

Yup, I thought you were joking back, but I just wanted to make sure. I’ve learned the hard way that you can’t be too careful! And besides, I’d really hate to miss out on your next fabulous FO!!! And yes, I think the smiley faces can kinda kill (or, ahem, overkill in GG’s case) the subtly of a statement!

Uhhhh, GG? I think you overkilled the overkill on the icons there!!! Ha!!

Your knitting is simply PERFECTION, Olha! I always love to see what you are up to! And although I’ve said this before…I love your photography so much! It makes such a nice experience!

Right back at you. But seriously, thank you, ladies. You spoil me with your comments and encourage me to take time and make those pictures. Local landscapes on the background are supposed to provide context and create a sense of connection. I think it stems from the new appreciation of handmade items no matter who made them.

Also, it’s just so much fun!
