FO - Slouched Tuva Hat

Wow, I really seem to be cranking out the projects lately!

Last weekend, while out soccering, my daughter’s teammate asked me if I’d knit her the hat she asked for during a New Year’s tournament.

I sort-of forgot…

So, I did some hunting and found a somewhat easy, yet what I think is a classy, pattern. Chicky’s teammate will be playing soccer in college, so I did my homework and found out that one of the school colors is red.

This is the Slouched Tuva Hat, a free pattern available here.

I used 138 yards of Caron Simply Soft in Autumn Red. I knit this on size US 8 needles.

The pattern was simple, simple, simple! I cast on last night and finished this afternoon. Seriously, I could have finished it completely in a few hours’ time, but a little thing called “earning a teensy paycheck” got in the way.

The decreases were done in the pattern established, so you don’t really get the spiral look.

I will probably make this again. I have enough yarn leftover to make myself one. :teehee:

But, here’s what I think I would do over. I would cast on fewer stitches, but my brain can’t handle the math and the adjustments. I’ll probably just go down in needle size, resorting to a US 6 or US 5. The hat seems a wee bit big, but it does stay on my head, so it could be that I’m finally “stylish” while wearing it. Who knows. :teehee:

Anyhoo, it’s a fun pattern that I highly recommend!

Thanks for looking at another one of my projects! :muah:

I love it! I’ll have to add it to my list of “fast and fun, but still cool” patterns to make for friends!

Nathalie, I LOVE it! BTW, did you get your hair cut? It looks really nice from the back.

I had it cut at Christmas. Maybe you’ve seen it when it’s been straightened? It usually looks a little longer then.

Thanks for your kind words about the hat AND the hair!

Oh, that’s so pretty! Love the color.

Very nice! And I love the color! :inlove:

You sure are cranking out the FO’s Nathalie! Love the hat - thanks for the link!!

Love it! Yours is the nicest one I’ve seen! Thanks for the link! I’ve faved it, saved it, and printed the pattern! And shared it with a friend who loves to knit hats for herself in this style!

Love the way it turned out!!! Beautiful! Love the color, stitch pattern AND the way it fits you! Doesn’t look too big. I thought that style was supposed to look like that.

Another winner! I’ve also bookmarked it for my daughter. Thanks!

I absolutely love that hat! You did such a good job. :cheering:

It looks great! Strangely enough, I just cast on for this hat earlier today! Mine is also in a red (KnitPicks Comfy Bulky in Fiesta) but it’s a brighter red than yours. I’m afraid mine will be too big because I’m using size 8 needles and following the instructions exactly :???: I guess we’ll see?

Anyway. Nice job!

Pretty! Reminds me of a snood, too.

Unless you knit tightly, I’d go ahead and frog and start over on size 6. This made a HUGE difference. I’ve already frogged the bigger one and will reknit it eventually.

Thanks for the kind words, all!!!

Ah, I finished the hat before I saw this reply. It did come out rather large:

I wore it last night when I went for a walk with my boyfriend. When we got home, I noticed that the hat had slid way too far back on my head (so the ribbing was at the crown of my head instead of right above my hairline) :eyebrow2: The hat is probably too heavy the way it is now… so I may still go back and frog the thing so I can re-knit it on smaller needles. Thanks for that advice

Ahhh…but your’s is so pretty! I don’t think you’ll regret the frogging. Well worth the effort, IMHO!
