Both hats were originally knit for my 7-year-old grandson, but the first came out way too big and his uncle claimed it. The pattern is Skull Hat (a free Ravelry download), and the yarn is Cascade 220 Superwash. Mods are on my Ravelry page, http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Slim/skull-hat.

Yes, that’s the [I]Uncle Argyle[/I] scarf from [I]Son of Stitch 'n Bitch[/I]. I made a couple of them last year and love the pattern. I plan on making myself one this year.

And, the hat goes so very well w/the b&w argyle scarf, I think I need to look into that book for the scarf too!!
I haven’t made the scarf yet, but I was able to get the book from the library and copy that pattern. If it’s the only pattern you want that’s a good option.
