Marni, I don’t think I have EVER SEEN a baby blanket the surpasses yours in colorfulness, ingenuity, and skill! Really.

Did you knit the 3 squares across the row…and just keep track of the patches as you approaced the next patch…kinda like colorblock work on a MEGA SCALE? Otherwise, I don’t know how else you could knit it all in one piece. My brain is racing! I think the colorblock technique would work. And, you’d just have to keep track of the 3 under construction till they were complete…then tie on new colors for the next row of 3 patches across. (???)
Well, now I am inspired. Who is gonna have the next baby??? I must must must make something even half a wonderful as your baby blankie! Hmmm…all my daughters and daughters-in-law think they’re done havin’ babies. Oh well, hmmm…my oldest granddaughter is 21, and has a ‘significant other’…a real keeper I might add! Maaaaaybe she’s next! :teehee: Well, after college I guess. She’s a junior at UW.

Thanks Artlady. Hmm, Colorblock? Yep, I guess.
I started by casting on all 3 colors on my interchangeables with an extra cable added then working back and forth across the entire project I incorporated the pattern and colors of each block as I went.
Sometimes there would be just 3 strands of yarn (top and bottom of each block) and other times I’d be working off both the inner and outer parts of a skein (not recommended) while having 3 or 4 other strands dangling down to partial balls or full skeins. I did [I]try[/I] to strategically decide what each block would be based on how many colors that would require me to use at one time, but I got a little carried away with the colors used in the top 3 though mostly because I changed my mind as I was knitted. Some patterns were duplicate stitched but most were stranded. It was not a very mobile project.
