FO - Knit it Down

This is Knit it Down from the cover of the current Creative Knitting (Jan '08). I started it about 2 weeks ago and have had a lot of time to work on it because of the holidays. It is my first top down sweater, which I liked. I am a little uneasy about the 1-piece concept. Had I made a mistake right at the beginning, it would have been a lot of frogging to fix! And my gauge was off, but I noticed it while I was still at the beginning, so I frogged and fixed it before it got to far.

I like the fit, though the collar is a bit wonky. I don’t think it was anything I did, I think it’s just the nature of the sweater.

I used Araucania Nature Wool Chunky, which I really like (I have another sweater in the regular weight). My only complaint is that one skein was a lot darker than the others, which is very noticeable on the bottom and part of the left arm. I don’t mind the bottom, but I wish I had striped the arm!

UPDATE: Ravelry has asked to use my picture as the example of the pattern!!! I am soooo flattered!!! My ego is officially HUGE!!!

Looks really good! I’m very partial to teal-y greeny blues…

i like the color too–I’ve been looking into knitting cuff to cuff–this looks really nice!

Oh - That turned out really nice. I love the color. I have that mag and was thinking of making one in cotton. Yours is beautiful.

:muah: That turned out gorgeous! I love the color, and I don’t think the light/dark spots look bad- I think it is really pretty; it looks like it’s meant to be that way  Great job!

:happydance: I love the color…it looks great!!

Looks great!

Ditto! It looks good to me too! Congrats on finishing it!

Wow, I love that sweater! Great color! I’d love to try that pattern – thanks for posting.

Very nice. You may find when you wash it the colors even out a bit. That is one of the draw backs to varigated yarn, esp handpainted yarn.

What a pretty sweater. I don’t think the yarn difference looks bad at all.

Thanks so much for sharing! I have been looking at that particular pattern since I got the magazine, in fact the magazine is sitting by my computer open to the page with the sweater pattern on it. I have been trying to pick out yarn that I think would be “just right”! I am so glad to hear that you had a good experience with the pattern. It really intrigues me for the reason that there is no finishing…I am a bit of a rookie when it comes to seaming.

When you say the collar is wonky…does it not lay down? Or is it too big? Could you give me a few more details??

Thanks again…
Rhonda

Oh great, now that I stopped getting the magazine they make something I like!

:teehee:

It’s beautiful!

Well, it is kind of big, and it lays straight down the back instead of fanned out across the shoulders. It kind of looks like a hood… I’m not much of a hood or “hoodie” person, so I don’t care for it, but I decided not to frog for now. I could probably block it into more of a fan shape!

Thanks so much for your response! I do like how the sweater looks so I think I will ahead and give it a try as soon as I get my hands some yarn!!
One more question, what size did you knit? And what size do you normally wear?? (is that rude to ask that??? :teehee: ) I have yet to knit a sweater and am just curious…
Congrats on your Raverly news. How flattering to be asked to use your example for the pattern…way to go!!
Thanks again…
Rhonda
