FO - Finally! wrap thing

 It’s done. I wasn’t sure that I was ever going to finish but… it’s pretty much done.

What is it? Well… it’s a shawl/wrap with sleeves kind of a thing. If someone knows the proper name, please let me know! I saw something very similar in a store but there was no way that I was going to pay $400 for it! So almost 3 months ago… I started knitting, and knitting, and knitting!

Here are the final stats:
creamy, off-white in color
1475 yards of yarn (that’s a lot of yarn!)
size 10 needles
cotton/wool blend
9 (nine!) feet long done in one peice with sleeve holes bound off
18 inches wide
basic 4, 6 and 8 stitch cables done with left and right twists
No Pattern involved - made it up as I went along!

It’s a serious winter item and… it’s 73 degrees today! :wall: My timing is a bit off. I’m not 100% happy with the sleeves so I may play with them a bit and see what can be done - they are just too big and loose where they join with the body. I think that I would like for them to be more fitted so this will take some thought and consideration. Other than the sleeves - I’m fairly impressed with myself.

I’m posting 3 pictures showing the various ways that it can be worn: loose in the front, over one shoulder or over both shoulders. It’s fairly versitile.

Many, many thanks to Ingrid for her tremendous support! (I hope that you can see that I used your suggestion about the cables on the sleeves issue. ) This is the very first time that I have ever seen something in a store and thought, “I can do that!” and then actually done it - without a pattern! What you see here is the reason that I have not had a single FO in months! I have been knitting but… this is all I’ve worked on.

:cheering: I finished it!!!
Ang

PS - the photos are in reverse order :frowning: You can also see clearly the sleeve issue - looking at the photo I KNOW they are too big and loose. I will definitely have to address this because it looks wrong. Hey, I’ve got plenty of time! Can’t wear the thing until next winter!

wow…that’s so cool! The sleeves look fine from what I can see…I like the way it can be a little off the shoulder.

I have to say I’ve never seen something in a store and gone home to knit it. Once again, wonderful job! People will be asking you where you got it! You’ll be able to flip one end over your shoulder and say, nonchalantly, “Oh, it’s just a little something I whipped up.”

BEAUTIFUL!!!

(I don’t think I’d be crazy enough to make one :shifty: )

Beautiful! I can’t believe you did that without a pattern! It looks fantastic!!!

Wow, that is amazing! And without a pattern too?!?! Beautiful job!

That’s fabulous! I want one, I want one…

You should turn the pattern in to knitty or magknit or someone!!

That is lovely!

Now THAT is gorgeous!!!

What a wonderful item you can now say “I DID THAT”!

You should be very proud

Wow Ang!! That is just beautiful! :inlove: :inlove:

And you’re so…creative, geez!! :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Beautiful! I have a similar wrappy sort of sweater thingy (also don’t know what to call it) and I love to wear it. Of course, I can’t say that I made it.

Great job!

Candice

gorgeous! and what a fantastic job you did! i dont know if anyone is ever 100% happy with what they knit… you should be the exception. you did a great job and it shows. congratulations on your dedication too!

Me too, me too! I want a pattern. I would even pay for that pattern!

 Pattern?

Well… like I said, I just kinda made it up as I went along. :?? I did take notes and might be able to come up with something but… I’ve really never done a “pattern” before. I mean, I can read a pattern but I’m not sure about writing one. :?? I’m flattered beyond words but…

If you guys are serious, I can try to come up with it but… are you serious?

One of the things that i heard(here in my early days on the forum) is try using the Family Circle “verbage” in writing a pattern, use that format. It’s easy to read, the descriptions are right there. If I ever do pattern writing, I’ll use that format.

That is just stunningly beautiful~!!!

WOW!

 IT!

Great job Ang!

I just LOVE it!! REALLY! And, YES…as I said in your blog, you should DEFINITELY write up the pattern.

I believe the proper name is “shawl/wrap with sleeves kind of thing” or as candicane said “wrappy sort of sweater thingy”. Either is acceptable in proper society.

As for the sleeves, I kind of like that they’re loose! Aside from the fact that they look nice that way, you might have a heavier weight top or sweater under it in the cold weather, so loose and relaxed sleeves would be perfect.

Awesome job! I’d buy the pattern - no joking there!
