FO: Braille scarf

I used bobbles to write a message in Braille, shown in the first picture. It’s a quote by Albert Einstein: “Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.”

The second picture is a picture of the entire scarf.
Third picture "Reality is merely an"
Fourth picture "illusion, albeit a"
Fifth picture “very persistent one”

I think I’ll be keeping this scarf to wear, and I’ll give my current one away.

This is THE MOST INTERESTING SCARF I’ve ever seen! How absolutely innovative!
Great work! And I love the Einstein quote!

Wow!! How unique!! That’s awesome!

Brilliant! I think that is possibly the most imaginative knitting project I’ve ever seen.

Very very cool!! Hubby used to teach Braille many moons ago and thought it was a great idea!!:cheering:

Totally unique and really cool!

I’m really impressed with your creativity! It came out lovely and what imagination it took to make that.

That is so cool! I would have never thought to do something like that - very creative. I love it!

Very, very interesting scarf! I don’t blame you for keeping it for yourself. It is attractive and will also be a conversation starter for people who notice things (I know some people don’t). I love it.

:yay: :yay: :yay:

So beautiful u shud be proud of it

How cool! Great work!

That’s really creative AND great looking too! What in the world gave you the idea for it?

Thanks for the compliments.

Well, I took an interest in languages a couple years ago and picked up a few, including little quirks like Braille. I actually made a scarf with the Braille alphabet at that time and gave it away. :psst: (26 letters does not make a long enough scarf)

Well done - very clever. It would be great for a blind friend. How did you do the bumps? I was thinking you could make something smaller with the alphabet on it or even a shorter quote. I know one young blind lady who would love it.

I learned how to make them from this website. Take a look at “Creating Basic Bobbles” under Advanced Knitting Techniques.

On this website, you can translate your message from English to Braille.

This scarf is 25 stitches wide, and bobbles were made at stitches 10, 13, and 16. The general pattern for each character (and the space that follows each character, separating it from the next one) was:

Knit 1 row with your first column of bobbles
Knit 1 row
Knit 1 row
Knit 1 row
Knit 1 row with your second column of bobbles
Knit 1 row
Knit 6 rows
Repeat for the next character.

What a brilliant idea!
