I knit this for my mother’s 83rd birthday. The name comes from the poem “Warning” which begins “When I am an old woman I shall wear purple …” My mom has always loved vibrant colors. This is a deep, rich purple.
Loved the pattern – it was very well written. I didn’t use beads because I wanted something warm and soft for mom to wear around the assited living center where she lives.
Great yarn – I love Jitterbug.
You do such beautiful things in lace. I envy you! I have tried to start a hat on size 3 needles and have frogged 3 times now and put it away. The small needles are getting the best of me and the really thin yarn. I am sure your mom will love showing this off.
this is a great shawl! Awesome lace work! Thanks for sharing the pics and the story.
You can be most proud of yourself and you can also enjoy the smile when you give the present. How could anyone NOT love this!
The color is awesome, too. I think a lot of older people use colors that are standing in the background, are not so visible and do not draw attention. But I think they should. I always made both my grandmothers wear colorful things - especially mono-colored - since they SHOULD draw that subtle attention to themselves.
