I was so impressed with this little cardigan (Stylecraft 4577) that I wanted to make one just like it. I ordered the pattern, but was disappointed to discover that it was knit in 5 pieces and seamed. I think this is a ridiculous way to make a baby cardigan, and decided to just wing it as a top down, one piece knit. The yarn (Sirdar Click DK) had been in my stash for years, and it’s a bit splitty, but it’s soft and washable. This is for my newest grandson, Liam, who is almost 5 months old.
I love it! So masculine and cute! And I agree…hate unnecessary seaming!
Oooooo…classy, Marilyn! Whee! Such good taste!
It looks really good. The collar is nice, and I like the stripes.
Absolutely beautiful … I love it!
Looks like you modified it perfectly! It’s fantastic for a baby boy!
Perfect! I love the way you “wing it”.
I do agree…It’s perfect and a great sweater!
absolutely adorable! a PERFECT little man sweater!!!
I can just see a little baby boy in that now! Really a great job.
Slim, that is just great!! I love it. You did a wonderful job making it in one piece. How is the collar done? Was it the first thing you did? It is the cutest little boy sweater. :woot:
What a beautiful sweater! How I envy that you were able to just ‘wing’ it! LOL!
Love the colours, the buttons… so cute!

I worked the front(s) in a shallow V-neck, increasing at the neck edge every right side row, then finished by picking up stitches all the way around the front opening and neck edge. I worked 2x2 rib with short rows worked into the rib pattern for the wider part of the collar (I got this idea from Wendy Barnard’s Something Red cardigan.) Hope this helps.
So cute! Perfect for a little boy . I agree - why seam a baby sweater?!
