Hi guys! I am very new to knitting, and the only needles I have are round. I have knit one scarf so far and I’m working on the second, but I realized my stitches don’t look like other people’s knitting. I don’t know why, but everything looks like a purl even though I am doing a regular knit stitch. Is it because I have to swap hands? Both sides look like this!

If you knit every row, you get garter stitch rather than stocking stitch. This is actually better for scarves because it won’t curl! Knitting every row in the round, however, makes stocking stitch!

You’re welcome! Your knitting looks really good so far, even if it didn’t turn out how you intended!
I agree with @Shintoga, garter stitch is good for scarves as it is reversible.
Garter stitch is worked differently if you work flat or if you work in the rounds.
- When working flat you just do knit stitches on each side
- When working in the rounds first knit a round, then purl a round, then repeating over and over these two rounds.
The same is for stockinette stitch, it is worked differently depending on if you work flat or in the rounds:
- When working flat you you first knit a row, then purl a row, then repeating over and over these two rows.
- When working in the rounds you just knit each row.

You can also do garter stitch by purling only on every row. I know one person who does that. But it’s a big pain.
