Flat pattern to round?

I found a hat pattern online, but it’s worked on straight needles on the flat and then joined by sewing.

Can I do it on circular needles using the same pattern? It shouldn’t be hard to turn the flat instructions into round ones… Or does this somehow ruin the whole pattern or something?

Yes, this is a simple one to change, just knit all the purl rows, the shaping is done on the knit rows anyway.
