Fixing mistakes on DPN knitting

How do you fix a mistake on DPN knitting? I don’t mean picking up dropped stitches–I mean, when you accidentally make a mistake in a stitch ( like a YO or a stitch that doesn’t look right, and you don’t notice it until you get back around and find it)? I’ve had to start over several times on a project, because I did not know what to do without taking the whole thing out. I get confused on DPN knitting and easily get lost. I know on other knitting, you just take out 1 stitch at a time–but I don’t know how to do this with DPN’s (since you have several needles to contend with).

For me, it mainly depends on how noticeable the error is. If I can do somethng simple like m1 or k2tog, I will do that. If it is a glaring error, what I will do is remove the one needle that has the offending stitch, from the END of the needle up to where the error is. I remove the one row of stitches, put the stitches on a spare needle, and then reknit that one part. I will also work in just the spot where the error is, removing the one stitch, and using a spare needle or a crochet hook to get that stitch back up. Clear as mud?

I’ll try that–but, when I pull out one needle, I really get in a mess, and get frustrated and confused. I honestly don’t know how I get those “strange” stitches on, but I manage to. I try to be careful, but it still happens.

Whenever you are removing you needle you need to be careful. I try to make sure that I’m not already stressed out or anything when I’m trying to “fix” an error. My worst time to try and fix something is when I’m sleep deprived after work on a weekday!
