Fixing a border

First time poster, long time reader. You all have helped me a ton since I started knitting a year ago.

Things were going swimmingly, until (perhaps after a glass or two of wine) I decided that I should pearl the border on each side (instead of knit), and then not realize it until 4 rows up.

I have been learning how to fix my mistakes however, so I took a deep breath and undid the stitches on the one side down to the mistake.

Here is the problem however: I have this loop of yarn. I am assuming it is because it is on the edge, but I have tried 4 or 5 different strategies to knit it back up, but I am not placing the yarn right and it looks funny. How do I knit this back up?

I tried to post a photo and a link, but it won’t let me as this is my first post. I will try to attach more info in a response if allowed.

Thanks!

Yes, these things happen. The best tutorial I’ve seen is this onewhich at least has a clear diagram of how to do the fix. I would probably use a blocking board to tack down the yarn loops so I could keep track of who’s where.

That said, I have to admit that I’ve never done this. I’ve always figured it would be quicker to rip out the knitting and re-do the rows rather than fight with the edge sts.

Darn, now I know, leave that edge stitch in next time. Sigh…out comes over 1,000 stitches.

Don’t feel too bad. I’ve got to frog a project and it’s got lots and lots more stitches than that. I know, it’s disheartening.
