Fixed folding garter st edge on caplet

Went out on the proverbial limb and did a crochet 3 & 4 slip st around lace bottom edge and it worked. (Top of lace work ) Very happy to say the lace work is now in full view with no flip. For the front edge chain st didn’t work and not sure why but I’m ok with it because caplet is to big anyway. On to a different caplet with better fit (hopefully) knit and learn :yarn:image|1200x900

Beautiful finishing all around. Your buttons and button loops are the perfect finishing touch.

Looks great!
Is it the buttonband edge that is still flipping? There’s a great roxanne richardson tutorial about finessing button bands which you might be interested in. It is helpful for knowing and understanding why a band flips and how to knit one in a way to prevent it happening. It’s not for fixes after the fact though.

Caplets have such an air of sophistication!

That is beautiful and so nicely done! Would you please explain your crochet edge? I’m considering one for a blanket with a curled garter stitch border. I’m not sure what you mean by crochet 3 & 4 slip stitch, although I have a guess or two.

Hi Beth…I pulled new yarn to back of work with crochet hook similar size to knitting needles. At the top of work where material folds in I attached yarn and pulled 3 loops through caplet ( in the top of garter st), yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook. Alternating 3 loop decrease and then 4 loop decrease. The caplet had tendency to pucker if stitches were pulled tightly so I was careful to leave them more loose. Being the slip sts we’re in the garter st these new stitches are not really noticeable. It feels odd crocheting with the working yarn on the opposite side of the work but once attached and you get into a rhythm your all good. Of course it’s totally up to you but personally I was disappointed after all that work. Good luck to you whatever you choose :yarn: I hope this helps

Yes I’ve watched this and unfortunately knitted after the fact. I did add the button and button loop after the caplet was finished so not the issue there. Thanks for the help. A good learning experience though. :yarn:

Yes…button band…the garter stitch. Sorry for the misinterpretation. 4:30 am came early, going for another cup of tea lol

Thank you so much! I’m going to have to swatch and test it. Sigh.

Love the button loops - I don’t knit clothes so probably won’t think of doing those but I think they look quite smart as a closure.

Tyvm Shintoga, I actually attached a a chain st and did single crochet around the chain. Very sturdy. Have a great day :tulip:
