First time on DPN's with some dumb questions

Hello all. I have been reading this forum for help the last month or so. I am a new knitter and I am on my first go with dpn’s. They scare me to death, but I think I have the general gist of things.

One thing I am having problems with is that when I try to start out the row purling, I am somehow ending up with some kind of wacky stitch. It looks like I somehow added another stitch and I have no idea what I am doing wrong! I have looked and looked and tried other things. It’s just that first stitch on each row.

Any suggestions or insight into what I am doing wrong?

Are you trying to do stockinette? If you are, all you have to do is knit all the way around. No purling.

If you do want to add purl rows, then my guess is that you have the yarn in back of your needles and are making a yo, or you’re wrapping your yarn around your working needle and making a yo that way.

Make sure the yarn in in front of your work and that it’s not coming around the back of your working needle.

Thanks so much for the quick response. I just figured out after I went through the heck to get the first couple rounds on that stockinette in the round creates just regular garter stitch. I wish the pattern had mentioned it. :frowning:

Yes, I must be somehow yarning over. I have it in my head to switch the yarn to the front like when you are going back and forth between purling and knitting. I will give it a try the right way and see if that’s what it is.

Thanks, again!

I’m sure I’ll be around with more stupid questions.

:fingerwag: No questions are stupid!
