First time knitting

i watched the long tail cast-on video atleast 50 times now and i just cannot get it right. i go under the left thumb loop and go over under the top one as it says to and when i pull it doesn’t go on, it just has the yarn wrapped around the needle as if i simply wrapped it around. i’ve been trying to do it for 4 hours now. any suggestions? i am copying what the lady in the video is doing but it just won’t work for me.

I couldn’t get the LT to work doing it in one hand, you might try the two handed version that’s listed there as the ‘thumb variation’. I’ve been using that one for 45 years.

I had the same problem the first few times I watched the video, which was just a few days ago. After you go over the yarn on the right hand side, bring the laterally to the left and under the yarn on the left. That was my problem. I´m not even sure if this explanation makes sense. I hope so. I was really frustrated too, and then when I got it right, I thought wow, this is a much easier cast on.

Good luck.
