First hat question

Hi everybody! THANK YOU for this site! I come to it VERY often and just now thought I’d check the forum. (Because I have a question…)

I started knitting just a few weeks ago and have finished two scarves, started a third (and fourth!) and in the meantime started a hat. (OK, I admit, this is ADDICTING!) The pattern I’m following is called Chemo Cap and I’m doing it on circular needles. I am just beginning to now work the crown and am thinking it’s going to get very tight, very quickly. What do I do when I am down to just a few rows left and not a lot of yarn to go around the needle?

Thanks so much! I can’t wait to start reading all the posts on here, but boy - there’s not a lot of hours left in the day after doing all of this knitting! (Ha Ha!)

Welcome!

There comes a point in all circular hats where you need to switch to double pointed needles or one of the other techniques. This shows how it is done.

You can also check out the other techniques for knitting small diameter things in the advanced video section–using two circs and magic loop.

i started using two circs for the first time today… i have never had problems with DPNs but they aren’t my favorite thing…i LOVE LOVE LOVE the two circ method and the true test of how easy it was…i did it while at the theatre! :happydance:

Thanks for the quick responses! So if I need to switch over to double pointed needles, how many do i need to buy? I believe my initial cast on was about 60 so I’m probably down to about 40 or 50 stitches right now.

They are sold in sets of four or five.

just get one set. they come in packages of 4 or 5. i have never needed 5 but for when i couldn’t find all of the needles.

I always lose the extra in the couch cushions!
