Hi! New to this site, intermediate knitter (sort of!). Am finishing a bolero type sweater knitted in ribs. The hem is g stitch (6 stitches). As I am assembling the hem, I’m wondering if there is a way to assemble this hem in a “stretch” way. The way I’m doing it now, back stitch, the stretch in the ribs stops at the assembled hem. I find this frustrating and am wondering if there is a way to make the hem stitch stretch also. Am giving this as a Christmas gift, leaving on Dec 20. Thank you so much to anyone who can help me!

Have you tried to crochet stuff together? I have done that before and just placed the crochet stitches close together with a large hook.
Also: just place more stitches of the seam you are making and stretch your work to the desired stretch before / when sewing it.
Have you tried matress stitch? That is more stretchy than back stitch.
Try mattress st and don’t pull the yarn tight that you’re using to seam up.
