I really am not sure what I am doing here, but I have a question.

Can anyone tell me what the purpose of putting stitches on a stitch holder is when you are binding off if you are finished with the project and the only thing left to do is put it together? This is a sweater and I am now supposed to join the shoulder front to back before setting in the sleeves. There is no collar.

Is this specific to the shoulders? If you want to join your shoulders using live sts (such as 3-ndl BO) they can’t be bound off. Thus, putting them on a holder keeps them ‘live.’ If you choose to bind them off, then you have to seam/sew them and that may not be the look you want OR what the pattern calls for.
