Finishing old project

Someone gave me an unfinished sweater that was started a long time ago then forgotten. This is a Mary Maxim pattern, the sweater is Peach with two white bunnies on the back. "Fair Isle knitting"
The back and the left front is finished which also has a bunnie on it.
I want to work on this till it’s done since someone put so much work into it already.
I had to frog the whole right side which is all peach color, because I found many mistakes in the stitches and the count was way off.
Since it layed around for many years the yarn is all wavy like when you braid your hair and take it out.
I tried to knit the piece again and the wavy yarn makes the stitches look weird.
Do you think if I wash the ball I made it into and dry it the crinkles will come out? Or should I finish it anyway and wash the whole piece
This is so cute, sure would like to finish it!
Sorry this is so long, Not sure just how to explain it.

Your best bet is to wind that crinkly ball into a hank, tie it in several sections around, and then wash it and hang it to dry, or even just hang it over steam or in a steamy shower.

Thank you!
I washed it and it is drying on a hook over our woodburner.
It seems to have loosened up quite a bit. not compeletly straight.
I will try knitting with it again tonight.
I hope you know how much I appreciate your help, It is really nice to be able to get answers to my knitting questions.
I don’t know anyone that knits so this is Great! :XX:
