Figuring out pattern

I am a new beginner at knitting and I found this afghan pattern in a beginner book but the pattern will not come out correctly. Can anyone tell me how many stitches I need to cast on and how many stitches I need to increase evenly for the pattern. Here is the instructions.

Cast on 188 stitches.
Row 1-7 Knit across
Row 8 Knit across increasing 30 sts evenly spaced.
Row 9 (right side) K4, *P2,K2,P2, (K4,P2)twice, K2,P2, K4; repeat from * across.
Row 10 K6, P2, K2, (P4,K2) twice, P2, * K8, P2, K2, (P4,K2) twice, P2; repeat from * across to last 6 sts K6.
Row 11 K4, * P2, work twist, P2, (K4,P2) twice, work twist, P2, K4; reat from * across.
Row 12 same as row 10.
Row 13 K4, * P2, work Twist, P2, work front cable, P2, work back cable, P2, work twist,P2, K4, repeat from * across

I figured out that row 9, 11, 13 had 30 stitches and row 10, 12, had 56 stitches. The pattern has 26 stitches. If I wanted to make this afghan 48 " x 68" how many stitches do I need to cast on and how many stitches do I need to increase evenly. Its not coming out as written.
Thanks for any help given.

If you can give us a link to the pattern it’ll help.

Row 9 has 30 sts more than row 8, and I expect the following rows will have the same amount. What you’re trying to do is determine the number of sts that are repeated. It looks like it’s 26 sts repeated in all the rows. You need to figure out how many sts/inch you’re getting and see how many inches you get out of 188 sts (the original cast on which won’t pull in as much as the cabled stitche). If it’s more than 48" then you decrease by 26 stitches. If it’s less than 48", then you increase the sts by 26.
