Felting - would this work?

i just finished my first 1x1 rib project and love that it looks like a knit stitch on both sides. at first i was thinking of doing a scarf with two different colors to create a reversible scarf (w/ one color on each side) but then thought maybe i could felt it to make it truely be once color per side. would this really work or is it just a fantasy?

You could do that, but just be aware that when you felt you lose stitch definition so it would no longer look like stockinette.

got that - but it would totally separate the colors right?

How are you planning on doing it? As two separate pieces seamed together or double knitted? I think as long as they are not mixed you would get two separate colors.

Here are two purses I did. you can see that where I knitted the colors next to each other there is some mix/bleeding of the color, but for the most part they are pretty separate.

i was thinking of doing it so on the RS, the knits would be A and the purls B

So you’re saying you’d knit with one color and purl with the other? What will happen if you do that is that you’ll get color changes that show on both sides so the effect you want wouldn’t work with this method. To get two sides that are completely different colors you’d need to use double knitting or knit two separate pieces and seam them together.

If that isn’t what you mean please clarify.

well it is, put on my regular 1x1 ribbing, it just looks like knit on both side cause it pulls in. i didnt know if it would stay pulled in and mask the purls on side A to make it a solid color.

(thanks for all of you answers)

Can you knit a test swatch and throw it in the washer? xxx

Yes, I think testing a swatch would be a good idea. That way you’ll know for sure.

thanks - when i try it i will. i dont even have the yarn for it, just thought it would be a fun idea
