Felting and stitch definition

I’ve just run my French Market Bag through the wash in my very first felting attempt ever! It’s drying in the bathtub right and I really hope (!!) it shrinks down a bit!!

Anyway, I know that when you felt, there should be a loss of stitch definition, but my question is how much?? When I look at my FMB, I don’t really see the stitches anymore, but when I hold it up to the light, I can definitely see all the stitches. This probably means that I haven’t felted it enough, right? Should a felted object be a solid piece of “felt”???

It’s not going to shrink any more when it’s drying. If you want it smaller, you can run it through the washer again.

The amount of stitch definition and felting is really up to you–how much you want.

But if it’s bigger than you want, you can make it smaller and that will eliminate some of the stitches.

Is it the more I shrink/felt it, the thicker/stronger the material will be?

Exactly!

Alrighty, back to the laundry room, I guess!!

Thanks for your help!
