No I don’t think so because I saw a “Knitty Gritty” episode and Bev Galeskas stuffs it, but doesn’t sew it up so she can adjust it, then takes the stuffing out and felts it.
yeah, I wouldn’t stuff it, first of all it would take FOREVER to dry and secondly, the stuffing would felt and then it would be lumpy and loose.
Whatcha making, Cindy?
I’m so anxiously awaiting my Knit Picks order so I can make a lamb from the Encyclopedia of Knitting. (SeeMrTea’s threads, under Whatcha Knitting).
I’m not going to stuff it before I felt it. Like my neighbor, Julie, said, it would take FOREVER to dry, even in Colorado Springs.
My concern with felting a non stuffed animal would be if the inside would felt together. I think the directions I have for one (can’t for the life of me find them) say to stuff it and sew it closed with cotton yarn and then when it’s felted, cut the cotton yarn, take out the stuffing and restuff it, shape it and let it dry, sewing it closed with the yarn you used for it.
Ooooh, I didn’t think of that, Ingrid! Good point! I’d be heartbroken if that happened.
Thanks for the tips. I wanted to know for future reference. I have seen a few really cute animal patterns. I just got done felting my 2nd Cat bordhi basket. Her stufff is so fun to do. Its drying next to my new Booga Bag. I have been a busy knitter!
Thanks again for the advice.
Cindy
i don’t think you would have to worry about the stuffing felting unless you are using something natural. most batting and stuff isn’t a natural fiber.
