The pattern say two strands of worsted weight. If I use Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride Worsted Bulky do I still need to use the two strands or will the bulky be enough? I don’t want to wimp out but I don’t want to overdo it either. Thanks.
I haven’t made this pattern, but I’m sure it lists a gauge somewhere - you should do a gauge swatch with the bulky yarn and see if it’s possible to achieve the right gauge with the single strand. Double strand of the bulky would probably for sure be too much though cause it asks for a double strand of worsted.
I believe people have done it with one strand of bulky and had success. Do check your gauge, though, just to be sure.
Thanks! I haven’t bought the pattern yet and I’m still a little timid about attempting it. I was just wondering if there was some scientific reason behind the two strands or it was simply to get the bulk. I’ll definitely do a swatch, these are going to be for my DH so I don’t want the poor guy to have to wear a size 5! :roflhard:
I did this pattern with one strand of bulky yarn, and it worked perfectly.
The only possible issue: I think my clogs are fuzzier than a pair knit with two strands of worsted. I like the look, but it may be a bit wild for what you want. (The fur stands up a good 3/4 inch, instead of a nice, tame, flat felt.)
The great advantage is that chunky yarn costs about the same per yard as the worsted; by using chunky, you save about half the price of the clogs.
I’ve made 4 pairs of felted clogs and only used bulky on one pair, but it ended up being my favorite pair. The single strand was easier to knit, for one, and the felted fabric came out the same as the worsted.
