I just felted a tote bag I knit and it has an odor. I used Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Bulky (100% Peruvian Wool). I did use a small amount of detergent while felting. It didn’t smell while I was knitting it and I was very surprised when I opened the washer and had that “wet animal” smell. I went ahead and finished the felting, then I blocked it and set it out to dry and I can still smell it. This is going to be a gift and I am hoping the smell will dissipate over time. I have just recently started knitting with more animal fibers and I hope this can be overcome. Any suggestions?
Wet wool smells, well, like wet sheep, I guess. Some people find it offensive, I think I like it because it tells me that whatever I just washed, blocked, or felted, is done. :teehee:
It does go away, though. Just let it dry thoroughly.
Yeah, I was going to say that it should be gone when it’s dry. I’ve used that yarn and it was fine dry.
