I purchased yarn on-line once and it was a disaster. I do not have a good local yarn store and need feltable wool for 3 pair of felted clogs. I have seen a lot of people talk about Knit Picks on here and they do not have a wool that meets the weight requirements for the Fiber Trends clogs. Anyone have a site they have had good luck with? Or ones to avoid?
I’ve ordered from Knit Picks and will do so again. I also use WEBS. One of my fave sites for “window shopping” and sometimes ordering is www.littleknits.com. Sometimes I can get a really amazing deal on just what I need, sometimes I don’t find anything.
I second GG’s suggestion of Webs. They are very pleasant and helpful to work with and at least for the east coast, shipment is very fast. I go there first if I’m shopping online.
I placed a WEBS order two days ago and I’m waiting to know if the close-out Nova fixed-circular sock needles will be included. They still show as available, but who knows? I’m not exhibiting much patience right now. I want my needles! (OK, tantrum finished. ) Oh, yeah, I ordered yarn too. I contacted them with a question and got an almost immediate reply so I could do it again to ask about my order but I know they’re busy and will try to be a little bit patient.
nova sock needles for me? oh, GG, you shouldn’t have…
no, but seriously, been comparison shopping… walmart, amazon, knitpicks, webs, etc… i’ve got an itchy mouse finger and i ain’t afraid to use it.
I’ve used Little knits before and can recommend them, service is a tad slow to Michigan but they have really good deals. I’ve also heard good things about WEBS but haven’t used them… yet!
Thank you ! I will take a look at those sites. There is a big fiber festival here the first week of Oct so I may wait and see what kind of deals I can get there. I had forgotten just how much yarn those felted clogs use !! My hubbies pair alone is 720yds and I need something that is 45-50yds per ounce.
For me the difficult thing about ordering online is color. It’s almost always a bit of a surprise. So far, no disasters but if I’m really concerned about color, it’s worth the long trip to the yarn store.
No online ordering for me anymore…got too many surprises, mainly in the shipping costs. Besides, I love perusing, touching yarns before buying.
But good luck to ya!
We have some nice yarn shops in my area, but I still order online. I’ve ordered a few times from Smiley’s Yarns (www.smileysyarns.com) and Webs. However, the one that I love is FiberWild (www.FiberWild.com). They have a store in Galena, IL and have a vast selection of the best yarns. And, if you call them they will help you with just about anything! They are about 3 hours from me so I do get them, but their online ordering is very convenient. I think you just have to give it a try.
WEBS!

everybody, it’s been fun… but now i have to go sell my wares (maybe sell myself) to keep affording yarn from littleknits.com!
that last sale of cuddly cotton for 86% off, jeez…
i ordered 2 different bulk 10-skein colorways for $40… a dark/bold blue/green that’s no longer available (color 104, 105?) and also a dark purple/black/red (color #109)…
more grams and yardage than lily, and some great colorways… what’s not to like?
anyway, gotta get out there and sell the goods, make me some more yarn money…
The last time I ordered online, I got this lovely red, that turned out to be a brownish colour… almost orange, in fact. I made the vest anyway but know I will never wear it so some lucky person will get it for Christmas.
Living in Canada, it seems I miss out on all the deals on shipping and sometimes I’ve actually been counting on those when I order only to find the shipping costs more than the purchase… very upsetting…
I still look online but now I’m very careful. I want to know the shipping cost up front so I can figure out if it’s worth the time and cost.
Mostly I shop locally… sounds good but so far the only shop I can really get anything at is Michael’s and right now they seem to be redoing their yarn department so the shelves are a bit empty.
Thank goodness, I have all the yarn I need at the moment for the projects I’m working on… but, of course, that won’t last long…

SHIPPING & RETURNS POLICY
Please call 1.800.877.5852 with any questions concerning the policy below.
As shipping rates are determined by the final weight of an order, we cannot list shipping rates for our non-U.S. shoppers. The website will give an estimate during checkout. We always adjust the shipping to our cost once we have the parcel ready to ship and have an exact weight.USPS First Class Mail is the least expensive method and can be used for packages weighing up to 4 lbs. USPS Priority Mail is the next method and can be used for any weight. We try to minimize shipping costs by using lighter packaging.
AND
SHIPPING RATES FOR INTERNATIONAL (NON-CANADIAN) SHOPPERS
All international shipping charges (to any location not mentioned in the US Customers and Canadian Customers sections above) are quoted at the actual cost of shipping.
hope that helps!
I like to shop WEBS. I’ve actually been to their store and it’s great!! They are very helpful and even when they are super busy they stop and help.
My daughter lives about 40 minutes from North Hampton so I try to get there when I visit.
They have a huge sale the middle of May every year that is to die for!! Stumbled on it a couple of years ago when we were in North Hampton. Can’t wait to go again.
I don’t have a local yarn store here in Lakeland so I usually order yarn on line and my choice is Knit Picks.
I’ve had only one order from Knit Picks that wasn’t what I expected. I know that the color I see on the screen may be somewhat different than what I actually get so I read the description too and figure that if it’s pretty close then that’s OK. I ordered Comfy worsted in a lilac and based on the description and the photo I expected a medium shade, between pastel and red violet. What I got was a really deep red violet. Beautiful, but not as anticipated. They would have paid postage for a return but I ended up keeping it. By the time I found out they would indeed refund the purchase price and provide return shipping, I’d decided I like it.
like any of us need more options to go stash-crazy… loveknitting.com now has a US presence with faster shipping from the US and free returns. info at http://www.loveknitting.com/us/
