Fat/Wide cables

Hello,

I’m looking for a magical technique for making really big cables that cross over a number of 20 stitches or more(??)
Is it possible to put 10 st on a cn, knit the next 10, and then the 10 from the cn, without it looking mega twisted?:??
… maybe i should try and find out, sorry for being so lazy…
I’ve been thinking about this technique for months and my brain just can’t visualize it.
If one of you knows how to make very wide cables (real ones, not mock), and if you would share your knowledge, you will definitely be my guru!
Cheers
FK

It IS possible, but in my experience (admittedly small) you need to use a loose gauge or it’s nearly impossible.

This is a 12x12 cable knit loosely with a mohair blend yarn. I attempted to do it with a heavier gauge yarn and it was very difficult. It might work with a loose gauge so depending on what you want to do give it a try!

I’ve seen it done with large numbers but they look quite different from say a 3x3 cable, very flat and kind of loose. Look at a stitch dictionary to see what i mean, sorry no camera.
