I just saw this post and it just so happens I came across a book that I had ordered from Amazon last year called Building in color by Michelle Hunter. It shows several color techniques as squares, to ultimately do a blanket but it is up to you. The book was around $24. Anyway, I had gotten it to learn color changing, intarsia etc. And I am just now working on my first project involving changing colors. But it might be a resource for you if you still are in need.

i just found that same book!
Thanks for all the help and suggestions!
I am clearly following up on suggestions from this group….This is part of a potholder chart.
This pattern is repeated 7times on circular needles for a total of 84 stitches.
My question is what do I do with the float of MC between row 4 and 6. Also the CC float between row 5-8.
Should I cut MC at end of row 4 and then rejoin? Similarly for CC after row 5? As you can see from the pattern chart this situation will occur again and again.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Are you knitting this in the round as a tube. It’s not really necessary to cut the yarn on these rows or rounds. You can carry it up like this:
