Fair Isle/Intarsia tips

Can anyone give me any good tips on how to keep my yarn from getting all tangled together? Or tips on how to make doing fair isle or intarsia as easy as possible?

Also - when starting in intarsia - how do you cast on in all of the colors? Or do I only cast on with one color and start from there?

When you cast on, you usually use one color and then introduce the other colors when they’re called for in the pattern.

Fair Isle yarn should tangle too much since you don’t have to twist the colors.

For intarsia, though, it does get tangled. I found the best way to do it is to let long strands hang from the back and pull them free when they get too tangled. It’s much easier than untangling skeins. You can use bobbins for each color, but personally I find them a bit of a nuisance.

There is another post a few down with more info.
