Fair Isle colors

So i am a new knitter, i taught myself to cast on and to do basic knit and purl a few years ago through a magazine and a couple diagrams

i have been watching the how to videos on here that are pretty helpful seeing as i am a visual and hands-on learner…

anyways i was thinking about trying my hand at a little fair isle knitting and i have a few questions.

do i cast on with both colors?
if i don’t, how and when do i introduce the new color?

do i need to end and bring the color in again later if there is a large section of only one color? or is there some way to carry it throughout the entire work?

those are it for now, i’m sure that i’ll have more later

Typically, Fair Isle knitting is carried all the way across the back of the work, because the colors are used all the way across.

Intarsia knitting involves ‘islands’ of patterns or color that you use a separate strand for. Each separate motif would have it’s own strand.

For Fair Isle, you cast on with the background color and incorporate the new color at the beginning of the row in which it is used.
