I’m trying to knit the sample Eyelet Butterflies in the Leisure Arts Sampler Afghan book. I’ve gotten to row 10 where I add on 5 sts. Then it says to “insert right needle under 6 horizontal strands”. I don’t understand what I’m supposed to do at this point. I don’t see exactly where I am supposed to insert the right needle and what it means “under 6 horizontal strands”. Can anyone help?
If this is a pattern that had you slipping sts with the yarn on the RS on previous rows, those are the strands you put the needle under.
Hi, Caronlacy
I’m making that same afghan but I’ve not done this square yet. But, it says first to turn your work which means just switch needles (put your left needle in your right hand and vice versa), then add the five stitches (at the bottom of that page it shows you how to do this). Then, it says to “turn” your work again, which will put your needles back in their original position. If you separate your needles just a little, you should be able to count down to the six horizontal strands. Put your right needle through the last horizontal strand (make sure you only have those six strands above your needle), do a YO and draw that stitch up and place it on your left needle, then knit it. Just take it one step at a time and you should be OK.

O-M-G! That’s it! I can’t believe I couldn’t see that. Thank you so much! You’re awesome!!! Good luck with the afghan. I’m not making the whole thing, I’m just practicing on some of the stitches I like to see if I want to use them for scarves. Hope you have a great evening.
