extra stitches?

Hello!
I am fairly new to knitting, so please bear with me. I ripped out a row for a poncho and now on my right needle I have two extra stitches at the edge and my yarn feed is on the 3rd stitch behind them. Would anyone kindly explain how to fix this? Thanks! I appreciate it!

Welcome to KH!

Well, I can’t be sure without seeing it, but you may have picked up the bar between the stitches and created extra stitches. That’s pretty common for new knitters. I’m not sure about edge stitches unless your working yarn is wrapped around them somehow. Can you take a picture (not too close) and share it? Thank you for replying! Attached are 3 shots and I hope that helps.

Ah. Well, I think I’d just rip back to row below that first mistake and be careful about putting the needles back in the stitches. Maybe someone will have a better way to handle it though. @salmonmac.

I agree. I don’t like taking out and repairing edge stitches. Here’s an organized way to do that but I haven’t tried it myself.

If the loop with the marker is an extra stitch and this will become part of a seam, you might just pull a short length of yarn through it and weave the ends into the seam.

At the end of a row, it sometimes happens that the last stitch tips up and what is actually one stitch looks like 2 and both parts of the stitch can accidentally knitted. Get int the practice, until you are more familiar with what to look for, of tugging gently at the end of the row before you knit the last stitch or so

Thank you so much for your replies, I do appreciate your taking the time to respond.
I ended up buying a temporary stitch holder and placed them on it that way (looks like a very thin circular needle with a stopper on one end). Then I ripped back 7 rows, to an unaffected row.
Again thank you!

Good luck  I’m starting again after not knitting for years so I always need help when I make mistakes too. I love the color yarn in your pics. Can you let me know the brand and color? Thanks!

Sure thing!
Attached are the pics! I chose this type of yarn because it is for a
poncho for a 7 yr. Old!

Thanks. So pretty :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve used Vintage. It’s a nice yarn and would be great for kids.
