Extra stitches problem - Paloma scarf pattern

Hi,

I saw some posts about this, but it still did not help.

The pattern is for the Paloma scarf. It is four rows repeated. The fourth row says the following:

K1,p1, k2, p1,k1, lift yarn strand with right hand needle tip, k1, then take Ayón over the stitch, k1, p1, (k2, p1) twice, k1, lift yarn strand with right hand needle tip, k1, then take yarn strand over the stitch, k1, p1, k2, p1,k1.

The problem is that I end up with two extra stitches.

It starts with 23 cast on. I end up with 25 at the end of the fourth row.

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thank you in advance

Hi. You’re basically putting your R needle under the strand between the st you just made and the 1st on the L needle. Knit the st on L needle and then pull the R needle back out from under the strand

Maybe this one?

In row 2 you slip 3 sts with yarn in front. This gives you a loose strand of yarn which you will pick up on row 4. The loose strand won’t add a stitch because it’ll just be caught when you take the yarn strand over the stitch. It’s like the pattern is this video.

If the strand isn’t caught but remains on the needle it might give you the extra sts.
Here’s a link to an old thread on this pattern.

Thank you both salmonmac and cubed. That really helped.
