I finished Kairi Tank and would like to extend the button band up. So, I need to pick up the stitches on the BO row at top, knit across, then… I am not sure about the technique to hook into the existing vertical row on the bodice. Pretty sure I can wing it, but after looking for “knitting into vertical row,” I have not come up with any advice. Advice?
Thank you!
Extending button band up
Great looking tank!
You could use mattress stitch to join the bind off of the old band to the cast on edge of the new band.
It’s may also be possible to pick up sts on the bind off edge and continue the band up the edge.
Thank you for your quick reply! Well, what I want to do is pick up from the cast on top edge of the existing button band and knit up, joining to the side of the bodice.
So, knitting up from the white marker to the pink marker. I know it won’t be perfect going up on a top down design, but my main question is how to link into the selvedge (actually a cool sort of barred slip stitch border) on the left.
Thank you!
Ah, yes. You can do this by picking up sts along the edge between the white and pink markers. Then pick up the sts you need across your garter edge. Knit the garter edge and join to the picked up sts on each right side (RS) row. Here’s a tutorial that shows the technique.
It worked! Almost imperceptible. . . Loving this top and thinking about another.
Very well done! The top looks terrific on you.
Well one on extending the button band. Was it because you wanted to change how it fitted?
I seem to get a problem with everything I make and have to work out a fix for it, so it’s great to know this is possible! I was looking for a tutorial on how to join as you knit a little while back but didn’t find one, so this has been really helpful and informative.
I’ve never made a button band either.
Well done looks great!
