Explain Pattern Stitch multiple

Would someone please explain to me what it means on your directions when it says pattern is multiple of 4 plus 9 ?
Thanks.

Any number times 4 plus 9:
4 + 9 = 13
8 +9 = 17
12+9 = 21
16 +9 = 25

etc…

I believe that it means that your “repeat pattern” is 9 stitches, plus 4 stitches (usually at the edges) to make a total stich row count of 13. So if you wanted 2 repeats of the pattern you would have 9 x 2 = 18 plus 4 =22 total stitches in the row.

No that’s backwards; the first number is the multiple, the 2nd one is the add on. Not all stitch patterns have edge stitches added to them, but need the odd number to make them work out right.

suzeeq is correct: “multiple of 4” “plus 9”

Oops - everyone is right (but me) :aww: I replied too fast - sorry!!!
