Hello
I have worked the back part of the pattern with cables but I am having a little trouble with the left Front part:
Row 1 (RS): K1 (0: 1:0: 1: 1), (P1, K1) 5 (7:8: 10:11: 13) times, P2, C4B, P2, C6B, (P1, K1) 4 times, P1. C6F, P2, C4B, C4F, P2, C4B, K8. Row 2: K8, P4, K2, P8, K2, P6, K2, (P1, K1) twice, P1, K2, P6, K2, P4, K2, (K1, P1) 5 (7:8: 10:11: 13) times, K1 (0: 1: 0: 1: 1).
These 2 rows set position of patt as given for back with front opening edge 8 sts still worked in g st.
Keeping patt correct as now set, cont as follows:
Work in patt for a further 14 rows, ending with a WS row.
Please can you help me understand the set position part? Does it mean I work cables every odd number Row or do I work cables every 1st and 5th row as I did for the back?
These two rows are setup rows so that the cables on the front will align with those on the back, while also adding an 8 st band made of garter st for the buttons. So you’ll cable every 1st and 5th row (if that’s what the pattern called for on the back) while maintaining the new 8 st g band on the edge. Make sense?
As there is no instruction for the 5th row cabling, do I need to reverse some of the cable directions. For the back part of the pattern, each row was written out for me, but for this part there is only 2 rows and the 5th row cables for the back change (for example C4B on row 1 and then row 5 would be C4F)
Does that make sense?
What does set position mean?
Thanks
The rows that you quote tell you where to place the cable pattern and the sts between cables. That’s setting the position of the cables.
Since the directions say “as given for back” you should work the same cable pattern as on the back. You don’t have to reverse the cables.
