This is the bottom of the sweater, it is a WIP, knit in the round, the back is finished and I am now working on the front. I started this sweater many years ago, lost track of where I was, and I was afraid I would not be able to match my knitting tension, so frogged the whole thing and restarted it. This is my first sweater, I have increased the length because I want it to be oversized.
Do-overs aren’t much fun but this sweater is worthy of the effort. It’s beautiful. I look forward to seeing yours done. 
So more about this sweater. The main body of the sweater is worked in a 48 row repeat, with the exception of two of the RS rows, the remainder of the RS rows have cable pattern stitches, the majority of the pattern repeats having two cables within the 21 stitch repeat, a handful have four cables.

I found myself at the end of the first row that I knitted without a cable needle and I thought, “awww, now I can’t practice this anymore”. Silly me, I’ve got at least twenty more RS rows (200 plus cables); I think I may just get this down by the time I finish the sweater.

There is something very satisfying about completing a project that’s been hanging around, even if you have to start it over to do so. Good going.
Cabling without cable needle is impressive and much faster and less fiddly. Not to say that I do it, but I do appreciate the technique.
Be fun to see this sweater when it’s finished.
I told my husband that cabling without a cable needle is like walking a tightrope without a net - those stitches hang out in mid-air until they’re scooped back up again. I wasn’t sure if it would be faster than cabling with a DPN - it is certainly faster than cabling with a 7" DPN! I’m starting to get the hang of it, it’s like the stitches are doing a little do-se-do around each other :happydance:
I’ve taken on many a “tremendous cables” project…and my mindset is always this: I focus on 1 row at a time, 1 repeat at a time…I don’t look at THE END of the journery (being so far away)…but at the DAILY JOURNEY. I simply enjoy each row as it comes.
I think this aran sweater is worth your time and effort…and I commend you for starting over. It’s exactly what I’d do…and have done many a time…and not because the project is eons old…because I’ve miscaluclated size, or gauge, or what have you.
I’m then grateful of the [U]end result[/U] being something I’m proud to own, proud to wear…or proud to gift! I’ve knit many things for my kids and grands.
