Ever starch knitting?

I’m making a vampire cape for baby’s Halloween. No pattern, just winging it (new to knitting and I wing a lot!). I’m almost done, went from bottom to top and doing the collar now that I’d like to stand up some. I’m thinking I’ll have to starch it to keep it stiff. Anyone ever done it? Thanks!

YES–cotton and linens… for a wool i’d suggest an add on stiffener. (can you starch wool? i don’t know!)

but plastic --like plastic binders (the $1 ones) can be cut to make ‘shapers’, and plastic bottles (like bleach bottles) and plastic mesh (for ‘needle point’) all make good stiffeners for hat brims, and purse tops (or bottoms)
the plastic mesh even comes in several colors (clear/white/red/green/etc)

those (if you use) 2 gallon plastic tubs of icecream are perfect for many things. thin enough to cut easily, stiff enough to work, and the curve +taper makes them the right shape for brims of hats, and stand up collars…
