Ethical knitting question

Hi all,

I knitted a flower and leaves book mark by following the pattern given in a book I have. The way i joined these leaves and flower was my idea.

Now my question is, if I wanted to post this pattern on my blog, mentioning where I got the flower and leaves pattern, would I be violating the copyright law?

Would this be illegal in any other way?

I believe it would be copywrite infringment if you were to post the pattern but you can post where you got the pattern and you can post your join.

As far as I know that would be perfectly fine. As long as post the link and mention where you got the pattern it’s fine to say that you found a way to join them that works better for you and then to share that info.

You can give the source of the pattern, but you can’t post the pattern.

Yes, you would be in violation of the copyright law if you posted the pattern for the bookmark. Just changing minor details of a pattern does not make it your pattern. It is consdered to be a derivative work. I gather from your message that the pattern you followed was for a bookmark and was not merely a stitch pattern from a stitch pattern dictionary that you made into a bookmark. If you take a stitch pattern from a stitch pattern dictionary and design your own bookmark then you would be able to post it. More information below:

actually they are two separate patterns, one for a flower and the other for a leaf and these flowers or leaves could be used to decorate your knitting project.

But i think i will not write down the pattern in my post, i’ll just mention that i got the pattern from a book (of course i’ll mention the book name and author)

I would like to thank all of you for the advice :muah:
