When I finish projects, I weave in my ends by following stitches on the inside (or backside) of the project. When I see my projects weeks later (hats or other things I’ve made for people) it seems like the ends end up poking through the front of the work. What can I do to make sure the ends stay put and don’t poke through? Should I knot them?
What type of yarn are you using? Wool, cotton, synthetics all have their own characteristics and slicker yarns are worst IME. Leaving a bit of a tail, maybe about 1/2", seems to help.
You can use a needle and matching thread to tack the end down. What fiber are you using?
Mostly acrylics… some bulky, some worsted…
Make sure you’re leaving a 1/2" or so tail and try Jan’s suggestion or you can turn back and purposely take your needle through the tail higher up and pull the end through it.
I forgot to mention that after weaving in following the yarn I also go back through diagonally and split the yarn for a few stitches. It tends to stay in there better.
