good. cables I love, too!
I really like those mittens! The colorwork looks perfect to me. The only thing I can’t figure out is, why do they call them “end paper” mittens? Do you know? Am I missing something?
:??
Oooo la la! Just in time for winter! This is really inspiring work!
thanks, girls!
I have just begun the “Musica” mitts with the cleffs on them for my sister in law so stranding is the theme of the month at the moment.
I will also make another set of endpapers for myself in 2 tones of berry (merino wool, nice and soft). I just can not decide if I want them with a design of my own or with the same repeat. I will have to make up my mind.
The Musicas went quickly so far, doing a few changes like a longer cuff (and maybe a longer thumb gusset for extra width) and I was not expecting that gloves from fingering weight would go so quickly with fair isle. But they do. One night and I am 2/3 done with the left hand. So that will not be too bad, really.
My endpapers I will have to make special, since they are mine. But the deciting takes so loooong.
Fingerless gloves are such a quick knit for gifts, I can only recommend that to everyone. Desgin yourself silly, use the existing desgins out there or just make them plain, textured or striped… anything goes and they are very effective.
Why on earth are they called “endpaper”??? I have no clue. maybe someone can explain that to me as well?
That would be very apreciated!
I just wanted to show my new fair isle mitts. Musica (Pattern I found on Ravelry)

This is the first one, mainly this worked out in one night and a little finishing.
Yours are looking nice. I made most of one of these and lost interest. I haven’t frogged yet, but probably will. I didn’t like the look of the cast on they promoted for these, I suppose it looks fine when they are worn though.
I just noticed the Musica Mitts below here. I haven’t seen those before. Cool.
Why are they called End Paper? I know the answer to this. Can’t remember how I found out. In old books they often used pattered paper inside the front and back covers that had interesting pattern designs. These are either taken from one such pattern or just reminiscent of “end paper”.
Ha!
Thanks for the explanation of the name! That makes sense. A paper structure could well be.
I actually like that Italian Cast on (I found a video showing it but now heard of a workmate - who knits, too - that she does something else for an Italian cast on… maybe there are term confusions again?). What I like is the actual invisible cast on edge that also mostly matches the bind off they do: stretchy as the fabric, seamless beginning and no bulk. But any tubular cast on may do as well.
Had I desgined something like this, I would have probably started with a provisional cast on right underneath the pattern (with that one set up round needed) and then worked the cuff down from there in the end, then you would have a perfect match for both ends.
I am actually making another pair of fingerless mitts soon, since now I want one for myself. I will take the base of the endpaper mitts and use the design I improvised yesterday evening. It consists of swirls ranking up the mitt and will be identical on top and bottom of the mitt and mirrored on the other hand. Let’s hope it looks as good in knitting as it does on paper and especially in my head. I will post pics ofcourse, and if anyone is interested, I will share my charts.
Oh, I owe you an update. This morning I finished my musica mitts. one more project done for x-mas. I am getting there bit by bit.

More pics in my Ravelry projects.
They were a much quicker knit than I thought. I also got along with the pattern better then I thought. After I was partially done with no. 1 I did make enlargement copies of the chart to be able to tell the lines appart better and use high lighter pens in 2 colors (every other line and then the color repeats 4 rows later).
That helps you even through the most strange charts.
I did pick up 6 stitches over the thumb, not just 4, since the thumbs fit better in my eyes and enable the motion more.
I am restless - and we had a hollyday so I had an extra day to this weekend.
I finished a hat and also the first one for my Grapevine Mitts.
The design is basically a modification of the endpaper mitts - but I did change more than just the design. These mitts are for myself this time.
Sorry for the color appearance. The light was not good in here.
