Ok… I feel a little silly asking this, but I’m just not getting it to click today, for some reason. I want to make Eunny’s Print O The Waves Stole, and on the 3rd pattern repeat row it ends each repeat with a yo, which is all good and well, till I get to the end of the row and have to do a yo.
When I then turn to purl back, well, the yo is anchored to nothing and I can’t figure out how to purl it. All the other yo’s in the pattern are followed by knits, so I have been just bringing my yarn to the front for those, then doing the knit stitch to create the yo, but this way just isn’t working for the last yo on the row. Do I have to do it differently somehow? I thought I would be able to do this, cause I can yo at the beginning of rows, I can yo at the end of rows when I’m doing magic loop, but for some reason, I can’t get this when I am just working back and forth on straights. I’ve googled to see if anyone else has had this issue, but all I see is lots of lovely completed stoles. I’m feeling pretty dumb at the moment, cause I’m stuck at row 3!!
If anyone can help me to get this, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks all…
I think I’d just yo at the beginning of the next row.
Maybe you can wrap the yarn around the needle 1-1/2 times? Wrap it around so that the yarn is where it needs to be for you to knit, and then wrap a little more so that it goes around the back of the needle and is where it needs to be for you to purl. And then just purl (carefully! So the YO doesn’t come apart) with your new needle. Does that make sense?
I have ended rows with YO’s before and usually it doesn’t matter that they’re not anchored onto anything. They’re a little awkward, but they work.
I don’t know if you can do the YO at the beginning of the next row because then the YO won’t get to be purled?
As you can tell by all my question marks, I’m certainly no expert, but these are my two cents.
Good luck!
Rebecca
Are you working on Chart A? I think you may be reading the chart wrong. There are no rows that end with a YO. Although the repeat ends with a YO there is a beginning section and an end section for each row that will be worked before and after the repeat. Row 3 on Chart A ends with a plain knit stitch. I’ve been knitting lace for about 10 years so I have gotten pretty adept at reading lace charts
Thanks Cal…
I’ve included the chart so people can laugh at what a dill I am, but with this pregnant brain i’ve forgotten how to knit :teehee:
For some reason, I wasn’t starting the chart at the beginning of the rows, I was taking the 16 stitch repeat section in red, and starting with that, then doing it four times
I don’t think I’ll have any problems now though, thanks ever so much.
