Emily Ocker help

Hi!

I have a pattern that calls for an Emily Ocker cast on (it’s a hat knit from the top down). After much trial, error and frustration, I got the stitches on my needles and knit a few rounds. The problem is, the hole in the middle isn’t small like in the picture, it’s 1/2" in diameter! Does anybody have any suggestions on how to clean that up a bit? I started over a few times to see if I could get it tighter, but no luck. If worse comes to worse, a hole in the top of a hat isn’t horrible, I guess…

Oh, and the pattern calls for 8 stitches cast on, then the first round is k1f&b all around so you have 16 stitches right away. Would knitting a round in those 8 stitches help?

Thank you!

I’d try pulling a piece of yarn through those stitches with a tapestry needle and pulling it tight like a drawstring.

There’s a thought! I like that a lot better than starting over.

I have done it a few times, I get 5-6 rows done after the initial cast-on and then just pull the string tight! It just pull the circle in the middle into nothing at all!

Here’s a website that can help.
